If long hair was such a problem when fighting in ancient times most of the nations would have died out - haircuts are a modern invention you know. Long hair can and offen goes by the rule of cool, but then sometimes the rule of practicallity trumps it Long hair is very distinct disadvantage when in combat, most armies both past and present made so that you either had no hair, short hair, or if you had long hair you would put in a bun. Not having long hair in TES and ME actualy makes sense though.
